I wanted to start a blog for a good long time. I spent ages thinking up all sorts of technology things I wanted to chat about from Gen-X childhood toys like Little Professor to trying to build my own iOS app. Names bounced around in my head from ‘Coffee over COBOL’ (limited scope) to Aunt Jenny’s Olde Tyme Tech Blog (based on Regrettable Food Gallery’s Spry cookbooks – way too complicated).
Sitting out on the patio in the mid morning sun, I thought ‘say why don’t I just use a randomly generated name for my blog’. That would be get me out of my doldrums. At first, I was like I’ll build one! That urge quickly flitted off. I googled ‘random name generator’ like any good programmer would. A ton of sites popped up – all useful to create test data but not blog names.
A hipster lightening bolt struck! I remembered a goofy website a friend and I came across about ten years ago – Hipster Business Names. We had a jolly time clicking away. It cracked me up. On my recent vacation to Seattle I saw tons and tons of businesses with these sorts of names.
Why should I keep churning over names when the solution was clear? Was the site still around? Indeed, it is. Fifteen minutes later I have my name and started my blog.
